DeSantis' Position on Renewable Fuels
Florida Governor and potential presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has pledged to back renewable energy sources if he wins the presidency. This comes despite ongoing criticism from ex-President Donald Trump about ethanol, a fuel derived from corn.
At an Iowa Republican event, Trump claimed DeSantis opposed ethanol, which could be harmful. Trump frequently attacks DeSantis on this issue in Iowa, boasting about his own pro-farmer policies.
Trump points to a 2017 bill that DeSantis supported in Congress, aiming to abolish the Renewable Fuel Standard. This program mandates oil refiners to mix biofuels into the national fuel supply.
Nevertheless, in a recent discussion, DeSantis clarified his stance. He wouldn't scrap the ethanol mandate, emphasizing his commitment to renewable energy and American jobs.
DeSantis also intends to halt mandates on electric vehicles, benefiting the renewable fuel sector. He plans to ease regulatory pressure on farmers from federal agencies like the EPA, recognizing the Midwest's significance in this area. When pressed, DeSantis confirmed his support for keeping the ethanol mandate.
